2010 Clan MacNicol International Gathering

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

October 9-11

The Clan MacNicol Society of North America, announces with great pleasure that it will host its 2010 International Gathering from Saturday, October 9 through Monday, October 11 in Vancouver, British Columbia.  This will be the first Clan-wide event to be held on the West Coast of Canada, and a large turn-out is anticipated from the many local members as well as from the rest of Canada, the U.S., Australia, New Zealand, and Scotland.

The Gathering will be honored by the participation of Clan Chief, John MacNeacail of MacNeacail and Scorrybreac, and his two sons, Luke and Adam; Murray Nicolson, High Commissioner for the Americas, and his wife Barbara; Mal Nicolson, Chief’s Lieutenant, and his wife Jen; Jeremy Nicholson of Balvenie, Chairman of the Clan MacNicol Federation; Dick Nicoll, Vice-President of the North American Clan Society, and his wife Carol; and the two Co-Commissioners for Canada, Mary Lou Nicolson Klimek and Jacques McNicoll. Other notables from the worldwide Clan are also expected to attend.

Preparations are underway for an exciting Gathering which will feature the now-traditional welcome cocktail party and buffet, several group meals, a gala Ceilidh, a Clan membership meeting, and tourist excursions in and around Vancouver.  The principal venue for group events will be the Delta Vancouver Airport Hotel in Richmond, immediately south of Vancouver.

The Clan has negotiated a favorable group rate booking of guest rooms with the Delta Vancouver Airport Hotel and with the more economical La Quinta Inn Vancouver Airport, also in Richmond. The two hotels are approximately 10 minutes' drive from each other, and are accessible by the respective hotels' free shuttle service from Vancouver International Airport.  The special discounted group rates will extend to three days before and after the Gathering for those who wish to extend their stay.

Attendance is by reservation only.  Participants may attend one, several or all events of the Gathering as they wish.  Details of the hotels and activities will become available by the end of May and will be posted on the Clan’s website www.clanmacnicol.org

as well as communicated directly to those who will have contacted the President to register their interest (see below for details).

As Western Canada’s principal international air gateway, Vancouver is readily accessible from Australia and New Zealand, as well as from the rest of Canada and the United States.  Less than three hours by interstate highway from Seattle, Washington, that city’s SeaTac airport offers a sometimes more economical alternative access point

Long-term MacNicol Clan members will recall that International Gatherings are held every two years.  During the past two decades, Gatherings have taken place in Portree (Isle of Skye) repeatedly, Brisbane, Canberra, Atlanta, Long Beach (California), Melbourne, and Dunedin (New Zealand).  All these Gatherings have proven memorably enjoyable to those who attended.

Clan members, families and friends interested in attending the 2010 Gathering are kindly requested to register their intent

through early September
